S3 E20: Divine Voicemail: Waiting for a Callback from God
The power of prayer is something people talk about all the time, but rarely do you hear a story where it quite literally saves someone's life in real time. Enter Teisha—who went from a pretty normal upbringing to experiencing a life-or-death moment where faith showed up big time.
Growing up, Teisha’s family was Christian in the “we go to church on Christmas and Easter” kind of way. She moved around a lot as a kid—Maryland to Connecticut to North Carolina—and by the time she hit college, she was fully embracing young adulthood. That meant school, waitressing, hanging with friends, and the occasional night out. Nothing wild, just your standard early 20s experience.
And then one night changed everything.
At 22, she went to a sports bar with some friends to catch a game. As the night wore on, her close friend left, and she ended up tagging along with some acquaintances who offered her a ride. A little more bar-hopping later, and things started to get… foggy. She later realized she’d been drugged. The next thing she knew, she woke up in a moving car—with three strange men she had never seen before, heading far away from the city.
Cue absolute terror.
When she tried to escape, one of the men punched her so hard that her front teeth were knocked out. In that moment—hurt, panicked, and sure she wasn’t getting out of this alive—Teisha did the only thing she could think of: she started reciting the one prayer she actually remembered, The Lord’s Prayer.
And that’s when things got weird.
The driver snapped: “Don’t bring the Lord into this.”
Seconds later, they let her out. Just like that. Middle of nowhere, pitch-dark highway, but alive.
Disoriented and in pain, Teisha stumbled onto what she thought was the median, trying to find help. Turns out, it wasn’t the median—it was an active lane of traffic in a construction zone. And then she heard it.
A truck.
Desperate, she did the only thing that made sense in that moment: she threw her arms in the air and yelled, “God help me!”
And then? BAM.
She was hit by a delivery truck.
Now, you’d think that would be the tragic end of the story, but nope. Teisha survived—miraculously—despite a shattered pelvis, a skull fracture, a broken arm, and a long list of injuries that should have had her bedridden for life. But instead of bitterness, something else happened.
As she recovered—10 weeks in the hospital, months of rehab—she felt God’s presence like never before. Instead of asking “Why me?”, she found herself asking, “Okay, what now?” She started diving into her faith, leading Bible studies, and within a year and a half, she met the man who would become her husband. (Spoiler: it wasn’t at a bar.)
Now, as a wife and mom, she shares her story to help others—because if anyone understands how fragile life is, it’s Teisha. She doesn’t focus on the trauma or the fear, but on gratitude. Instead of being bitter, she’s thankful. Instead of letting anxiety consume her, she sees how God turned a night of absolute terror into a powerful testimony.
Because let’s be honest—who survives both an attempted abduction and getting hit by a truck?
Teisha did. And if that’s not proof of divine intervention, what is?
